TINY AND BIG – the game

After months of teamwork and lots of headaches
and discussions, “TINY AND BIG” is finally born! The game is available as demo version for
WINDOWS, MAC and LINUX on the website of the team for free download.

“TINY AND BIG – Up The Volcano” was conceived and realized as a project between animators and illustrators of the Kunsthochschule with computer scientists from the Ing.-Schule Kassel in a team of around ten people. The player controls as the main character Tiny through a world of large cuboid formations and has to bend his way with Laserkanone and Enterhaken to the opponent Big the underpants again, which he stolen Tiny. The challenge is to find new ways to navigate through the rocks by cleverly slicing and moving rock and rubble.

With “Up The Volcano” the first beta version is now available. Within 72 hours of release the demo has been downloaded over 4000 times. With the help of the feedback, the developers can identify and fix existing problems. This is why the creators explicitly call for a short mail to share the impressions and experiences with the game.

TRICKREICH 2010 in Bali Kino

On 28 and 29 January 2010, the latest films of the Trickfilmklasse Kassel were presented at the Bali Cinema in Kassel. In the two days almost sold-out big hall the filmmakers presented their productions and presented themselves briefly to the audience.

What has been described as a “cracked festival atmosphere” in the Kassel local newspaper HNA (link to article [http://www.hna.de/nachrichten/kultur/kultur-lokal/verlieben-140-610747.html]) has been more firmly established for several years Part of Trickfilm’s annual presentation. The response of the audience to their own films is, after all, an important and valuable experience for the filmmakers.

In particular, for filmmakers like “The Burning House” by Nils Knoblich, “The Chosen One” by Damian Harmata, “The Precise Peter” by Martin Schmidt or “Vienne” by Robert Atangana Manifong was TRICKREICH a good opportunity to see how the audience To the result of monthly work.
Those who have missed TRICKREICH 2010 can comfort themselves: In July, a film evening with current films will take place in the course of this year’s annual exhibition of the Kunsthochschule – and next year there will certainly be a TRICKREICH 2011!

STEINFLIEGEN wins Murnau-Prize

The puppet film “Steinfliegen” by Anne Walther has been awarded the “Murnau Kurzfilmpreis 2010” by the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation. This is intended to promote “particularly suitable, publicly effective, current German short films.”

The prize is endowed with 2000 Euro and is awarded annually by a jury to films with a demonstration period is up to 15 minutes. This year’s award is on 7th May 2010 at the Caligari Filmbühne in Wiesbaden.

ULITSA DIMITROVA wins atIndependent Games Festival

Lea Schönfelder won the “Student Showcase” section at the “Independent Games Festival” http://www.igf.com/ with her computer game “Ulitsa Dimitrova”. The festival is the world’s largest festival of the Independent Game scene and takes place in San Francisco, California, in March 2010, but the award winners were already announced in advance.

“Ulitsa Dimitrova” was developed in collaboration with Gerard Delmas during the “Drück mich” project, which was presented as a cooperation with the “New Media” course at the Kunsthochschule Kassel at the International Trickfilmfestival Stuttgart in the spring of 2009. The task of the player is to keep the 7-year-old street boy and chain-sweeper Pyotr alive by keeping him occupied and thereby keeping awake.

In contrast to “normal” children, Pjotr’s life, however, consists of smoking, breaking in and stealing. If the player stops playing, the street boy sits down and freezes in the snow on the icy Ulitsa Dimitrova. Inspired was Lea Schönfelder by her visit to Saint Petersburg, where she watched the life of street children. Her other game “HUONG JIAO PING” were also inspired by her travels.

We congratulate!

TRICKREICH 2010

The audience now has the twofold opportunity to experience the answers to these questions while experiencing an entertaining trickfilm evening:

On Thursday, January 28, 2010 and Friday, January 29, 2010 at 22.15 hrs in the BALI Kino, Kulturbahnhof Kassel.

Honorable mention for “You are my hero” by Tobias Bilgeri

With his animation film “You are my hero”, Tobias Bilgeri has received a “Honorable Mention” at the 26th Dokfest Kassel in the competition for the Golden Hercules. A total of 30 filmes were nominated for the prize, while the documentary “Hidden in Schnuttenbach” by Thomas Majewski is the prize-winning feature.

The jury justifies the honorable mention for the film produced in 3d computer animation as follows:
“The digitally produced short film is aesthetically based on the iconic painting of the 14th century – including golden backgrounds, flat garments and a false central perspective. Quietly telling, with the optics and colors very intense and contrasting, with a beguiling narrator and a timeless history as old as love and deceit, the work convinces through a coherent and high-quality overall structure, which conjures a knowing smirk on the face of the spectator.”

The 26th Dokfest Kassel from 10th – 15th November 2009 broke all previous records with a total of more than 10,000 visitors on 5 days this year. Even if the focus of the festival is on documentary films, short films by students of the Kassel art college were shown in four blocks. Amongst the following films of student of the trickfilm class:

S’Hannerl war a Depp by Federico Martin
